A stately old ad man once said to me that there were only two ways to make good creative ads; "you either make people laugh, or you have a great song".
The concept for the ads came from an idea the art director and I were looking at a couple of years prior for a butter commercial, we'd seen this Lurpak butter commercial from the UK using really tight, kinetic shots of food ingredients. We wound up going in a different direction but always wanted to do something similar and when Hellers came to us and said they were launching a new range of ready meals the idea just seemed to fit.
The rights for the track were really high, so we wound up buying the publishing rights and rerecording the track at the legendary Lyttleton Records studio in Christchurch using all original era amps and instruments. The guys at Fish and Clips scouted locations and shot the commercial in Auckland.
